Identification of biological markers are becoming an increasingly important reality in eyecare. Biomarkers in eyecare range from ocular biomarkers for ocular conditions to ocular biomarkers for systemic, vascular and aging-related neurodegenerative conditions. This lecture will specifically highlight many relevant retinal biomarkers that can currently be identified on OCT and OCT-A and also discuss how the advances in science may unlock their potential noninvasive use in the detection of non-ocular conditions in the future.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Review the concept of biomarkers and their implications in eye care
Review the role of OCT and OCT-Angiography in detecting structural and functional biomarkers in the inner retina
Empower the attendees to apply retinal biomarkers in practice for diabetes, glaucoma, AMD and neurological disease.
Explore the potential of retinal biomarkers in detecting aging-related neurodegenerative conditions and the subsequent role of the OD in multidisciplinary care
