Visual fields defined are the complete image that is visible at a single time point. From screening to suprathreshold visual fields, eyecare providers can employ perimetry to detect and monitor defects caused by neurologic, retina, or glaucomatous disease. This lecture will review disease conditions that warrant visual field testing, when to order perimetry, and how to interpret the visual field results. New technologies and platforms for perimetry will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Discuss the three main condition classes we perform visual fields for; neurologic, retina, and glaucoma
Review the visual pathway through monocular versus binocular visual fields and congruent vs. incongruent defects
Teach attendees a repeatable step-wise approach to analyze a visual field for glaucoma
Examine the new visual field algorithms, platforms, and updates
Compare and contrast the gold standard in visual fields (Humphrey Field Analyzer) versus newer virtual reality visual fields
Preview home monitoring devices for perimetry and discuss how this could be implemented
